It isn't playable for me, for some reason the game opens to a black screen but with sounds and inputs working.

Hey, sorry to hear that the game isn't working for you.
If you're having an Nvidia GPU, can you check if it works when you change the Antialiasing mode in NVIDIA's control panel to "Application-controlled"? You might also need to change "Adjust Image Settings with Preview" to "Let the 3D application decide" if the former doesn't solve the problem. Thanks!

Did the first thing and it worked, thank you :-)

Awesome, glad that it works now! Enjoy!

Parasite Eve 1 feeling will try it!

Resident Evil!

This is pretty awesome, although not what I expected. This is a rogue-like dungeon crawler. I was hoping for something a bit more fixed camera/puzzle/terrible voice acting oriented.

That being said, you did a GREAT job with what you did. The controls are fairly intuitive, you have nailed the look and atmosphere, if not the mood of the game you are paying homage to. The player is a bit OP, and seems to be able to kill everything that gets in her way, which defangs the horror somewhat, but all of the elements are there, and the game loop is classic and well implemented.

If this is your first effort, this is an excellent way to go. You can definitely work your way up to creating something more ambitious. Keep going!

Pretty epic!!

Does your game have translation to Portuguese? If not, I'm interested to help.

This game does not open for me. What could be wrong.

Hey, can you tell me your specs? Also can you specify what "does not open" looks like for you? Is there just nothing happening at all or do you have a black screen? Thanks!

Spent some time with it, so figure I should record some semi-first thoughts!

You've completely nailed it from a sound and visual design standpoint. I wish you could've been there when I bust out into laughter on the 'spell' cast animation- though trust me, this was a good thing.

On Difficulty- I'm going to echo diabolodev, and say that i'd prefer an emphasis on kit than grinding for permanent upgrades, and a little polish on Serums and Boxes. Gunplay I acknowledge is probably meant to feel the way it does, but it could definitely use a minor to modest buff for how hard ammo is to find (or just make ammo VERY modestly more available, and leave stats as is- I'm sure plenty of people will poke and prod at it).

A little (and I do mean a LITTLE) visual clarity might also help- like giving the Carnifex different stances for its specials. Miiight have just lost a run to the nearly 300 damage in a straight line, thinking it was the AOE. Definitely not a factor. Nope. :P

All in all, though! I'm pumped as hell for release, early access or otherwise, and shout out to ABG for pointing me this game's way! :>

The aesthetic is great. I hope you balance healing versus how punishing/hard to identify boxes and serums are, ammo being very limited but not that useful, and the ease of getting a full kit & rescue crystal in the future since those make the game feel less about interacting with items and mechanics and more about grinding permanent upgrades for you and your knife and then just hitting enemies

(+1)

Thank you so much for playing and for your feedback! Balancing is definitely something I'm constantly working on!

You're welcome, it's a fun game

Here's a bug I noticed: While wearing a magic protector with invisibility & deadly gas effects on being hit, it seems that the game crashes if I'm holding space to auto attack while it actives the gas effect

This should be fixed in the latest version, let me know if that works and thanks for reporting!

Not my thing, but my friend is loving it.

He asks for diagonals.

The original 7DRL version and the earlier demo both had 8-way movement. At some point I made the design decision to change that to 4-way as I feel like this works best for the result I have in mind. I know that this is a divisive topic and believe me that this decision was well thought over. Either way, thanks for playing!

I enjoyed it so much! Have you ever considered getting Japanese language option for the game?

Yes of course! But since I'm working on this game by myself I will have to see if there's enough demand for it after release. Thank you for playing!

Would you be interested in getting Japanese localization for the demo? I can do that for free if you like. Leave me your professional email address if you are interested!

Dev this was my first EVER RPG game

and it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

Plz let me know when the full game comes out ive already wish listed it on steam hehehe.

Thanks for playing!

Absolutely killing it! I love the Resident Evil vibe mixed with the roguelike dungeon crawler aspect. Absolutely loved it! I can't wait for it's full release!

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for playing!

Nice this was really great demo so far I like this old re style game and you really did great job anyway well done keep it up!

Thanks for playing!

Just finished the demo on the Linux build, in short I loved it, exactly the kind of mystery dungeon I wanted to play. Great job you should be proud of this game.

Didn't encounter any issues while playing, a very minor suggestion would be to have the different types traps look different!

Happy to hear that, thanks for playing!

The game seems fun and I didn't realize that there would be magic in the game. Overall, the game's really fun and I look forward for the game's full release. Keep it up.

Here's my channel for other games I have played. https://www.youtube.com/@Levont

Thanks for playing!

really enjoyed this, have been hungup and played it for a few hours till I finished all the demo content. I was lucky enough to find a monster room and was strong enough to kill all of them -> lots of epic equipment that let me beat it:D excited about the full version!

Well deserved after beating that monster house! Thanks for playing!

I could only play the first round (tutorial). From the looks of it it's a fun game, but in the first lobby the game glitched out and the character was invisible. Without seeing where my character is, I couldn't progress further.

I will give it another try when that bug is fixed.

Hello, thanks for playing!

Weird, never seen that issue before and I also can't reproduce that on my end. I've just uploaded an update (DEMOV.070125) that adjusts some things that could potentially be the cause of this. Please let me know if the update fixes your problem!

Btw. you can end the run from the menu, this way you don't have to play through the tutorial again.

Thanks!

(1 edit)

First of all, W Dev for responding and patching this fast

Secondly, no, sadly the issue hasn't fixed itself... As you can see, my character just left lol. Maybe it's important to mention that I have low memory on my device.

Yeah from the looks of it, it doesn't render any interactable objects at all. Can you tell me your specs so that I can look into this issue some more? Thanks!

I am not quite sure what exactly specs are, but I think you need this information:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7300U CPU @ 2.60GHz   2.71 GHz
8 GB RAM
(and like 8 Gigabyte memory left :')

I think that's what you're asking, but incase I'm wrong just correct me

Love the idea and the aesthetic. Can't wait to try it out.

More general question: is the engine proprietary? Can you describe the tech involved? (I'm imagining a classic-FF-inspired roguelike based on these visuals!

(+1)

Hey, thanks! The game is made with Godot, hope that helps!

That's a great lead, thank you!

(+1)

oh :) the good old re1 look ;)  nice GJ!

thank you!

Really cool demo, loved playing it. Cant wait for the full release.

I got a couple of question.

-Are enemies unable to trigger traps? Ive tried but everytime the enemy stepped into one nothing happened.

-Is it normal to spawn in the same room as the door for the next floor? I feel like thats intentional but wanted to give a heads up in case.

-Isnt the rescue crystal kind of busted?  Ive never died cause of it, just for 10 coins you can avoid dying, also it basically allows you to farm herbs, ammo, serum and hexes. On the other hand i feel like dying is wayy to punishing, i have killed myself just to see what would happen and it seems kinda hard to recover from it unless you had stuff already stored.

Also i like serums but sometimes they just fill the inventory wayy to quickly, i barely used them when i had a good run cause i was afraid of blewing it, Itd be nice if u could maybe stack  maybe 3? of the same serum. They can be extremely powerfull i wont deny that but they usually were the first thing id throw when i reached max capacity.

(+2)

Hey, thanks for playing the demo!
- yes enemies can't trigger traps. While this is a standard for this genre, I've thought about and experimented with changing that but it often lead to a situation where enemies would trigger traps before you have even noticed them which felt not that good imho. They are way more lenient in this game compared to other Mystery Dungeon games though and you will always see them on the minimap when you're next to them

- As for the doors spawning in the same room as you spawn. Yeah, right now it's just random chance so that can happen. But since you're fighting an uphill battle against the power curve of the enemies it's often not a good idea to just get to the next floor as fast as possible. Maybe if you're equipped well enough that is.

- Yes, the rescue crystal is probably the most powerful item in the game. Buying it from the vendor is just to make sure you're extra safe as you can also find them in the dungeon. There are status effects that can prevent you from using it though and it will probably make even more sense why it is designed in that way in the full game!

- I think that the Serums are mostly scary at first when you don't know all the outcomes and the strategies to when you can safely use them. But as with the traps I made sure that they are not too punishing and as I hinted at before, there are a couple of ways to mitigate the risk even further.  There's probably also gonna be a new item which will let you identify all the serums that are in your inventory which will encourage you more to keep them.

Thanks for the feedback, and again, thanks for playing!

Incredible!

Thank you!

I found out about this game on Twitter and played the demo version!

It was a lot of fun!

The link to receive a Discord invite from within the game seems to have expired, is there any other way to receive an invite?

Are you sure that the link has expired? From what I can see you're already on the Discord server. Thanks for playing!

The problem was resolved and I was able to join Discord successfully.

It was a problem with my operation : )

(1 edit)

Looks great! Any chance of a Linux demo?

(+1)

Yes, of course. Just uploaded the linux build. Enjoy!

Thank you!

Having tried it out, this is pretty fun. I've always wanted a roguelike/roguelite Resident Evil game, and this scratches the itch. I've already wishlisted on Steam and I'll be looking forward to the full release!

FEEDBACK/SUGGESTIONS/QUESTIONS:
- I'd strongly recommend that the various Box items get rebalanced some. Basically every box I tried that wasn't an Idiot Box blew up on me. Seems to be weighted a bit heavier towards 'trapped' than not, to the point it's worth either not picking up the Boxes at all, or just sell them to the Trader and call it a day.

- In a similar vein, maybe provide a spell that identifies serums in your inventory? I get the rationale behind them having random effects, but as they're seemingly randomized each run it would be helpful to have a method to cut out some of the RNG. That's especially considering you'll probably only find one or two serums of a given type in a run.

- Can you specify what the effects are when you level up Whirlwind? Does it increase the range that your attack hits when you cast? I thought that was the case, but it's a bit hard to confirm.

- Is it intentional that you can't buy ammunition from the Trader? Or is that something that'll be revisited later in development? I approve of him always stocking a Rescue Crystal for you, though, that was a good choice.

Hey, thanks for the feedback!

Yeah you're probably right, I'll lower the chance for those boxes to be trapped in the next version!

As for the serums, there are a couple of ways to safely figure out what they are. There was an item at one point to identify the serums but that becomes pretty useless once you identified all the serums during one run. You have to keep in mind that in the full game one run might be a  longer than just those 4 floors. I've also made sure that the negative effects aren't so strong that they can completely ruin your run when consumed at the right time.

As for the Whirlwind and Spells in general. I'm gonna change the description of the spellbooks so that they better describe what upgrading the spell actually does!

And for the ammunition, yeah that's intentional right now. Ranged attacks are very strong and just being able to buy them from the vendor would mess with the balance of the game a lot. I'll definitely think about that some more, though!

Again, thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!

Are you able to disclose how many floors will the final game feature? Any hope for a 99f clear? Hyped to see more, good luck on development

There are 4 areas in the full game right now, so 20 floors, counting pre-rendered places between them. And yes, there is a 99 floor post game dungeon!

nice new version

Black screen for me too, ryzen 7, 16gb ram, 3ghz processor

Can you tell me what kind of GPU you have? Thanks!

gtx 1060 6gb, i have no clue why doesnt it work, i played it on a laptop and it works fine

Can you check if it works when you change the Antialiasing mode in NVIDIA's control panel to "Application-controlled"? You might also need to change "Adjust Image Settings with Preview" to "Let the 3D application decide" if the former doesn't solve the problem. Thanks!

(-1)

So excited for this new version!!!!

(+1)

Thanks!!

When I load the game its just a black screen? Got music and sound

Can you tell me your specs / what kind of GPU you have? Thanks!

Hey sorry I got it set it from high performance to power saving and it worked. Can't wait to play this played the demo ages ago when it was different

Alright, glad that you got it working! Have fun!
